Canadian Academy of Health Sciences names Colleen Varcoe a Fellow

Renowned Canadian leader and advocate on women’s health promotion with an emphasis on violence against women, and the promotion of socially just health care, Colleen Varcoe has made substantial inroads in our understanding of the health consequences of violence, including health care policy and practice in response to violence. She has informed the measurement of discrimination and the advancement of the concept of cultural safety in health care in Canada.

Colleen received the honour at a special induction ceremony in Ottawa during the 2015 annual meeting of the CAHS. Election as a Fellow in the Academy is considered one of the highest honours for individuals in the Canadian health sciences community.

Congratulations, Colleen!
